Doctors

Dr Alex Petrushevski

Dr Alex Petrushevski graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2008, attaining Honours in the MBBS. He has worked in various teaching hospitals in 2 states, including working for several years within Sydney Cancer services, and had his research published in an International journal during this time. His postgraduate qualifications include the Fellowship of the College of General Practitioners and the Diploma of Child Health from Sydney University.

He currently works in general practice in addition to practising within Sydney Low Carb Specialists. He is passionate about preventative health, improving the lifestyle of his patients and treating chronic diseases without medication if possible. Having seen the immense benefits low carbohydrate nutrition has provided for many of his patients in general practice he is keen to share this exciting cutting edge medical therapy with more patients in our clinic.

Alex is a foundation member of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners and has done further nutrition training through the Nutrition Network. He is also a member of Low Carb Down Under, and has presented several times at Low Carb Down Under conferences.

Dr Deepa Mahananda

Dr Deepa Mahananda graduated from Western Sydney University Medical School in 2012 and completed her junior medical officer training at Concord, Canterbury and Broken Hill hospitals. Her postgraduate qualifications include the Fellowship of the College of General Practitioners, Diploma in Child Health (University of Sydney) and she is a Board Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist through the American Nutrition Association.  Deepa is passionate about teaching and is a Conjoint Lecturer with Western Sydney University.

She currently co-directs and works full time at Sydney Low Carb Specialists,  using low carbohydrate nutrition and ketogenic therapies to address the root causes of chronic disease, especially in womens’, childrens’ and adolescent health.

She is the chairperson of the Australasian Metabolic Health Society, a not for profit organisation for health professionals that was founded in July 2023.

Dietitian

Kate Oetsch

Kate Oetsch is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who graduated from the University of Wollongong.

She worked as a school teacher for almost a decade before her passion for nutrition saw her return to study so she could turn her passion into a career. She believes in the prevention and management of lifestyle diseases through diet and exercise and also holds qualifications as a personal trainer and yoga instructor.

Kate came to learn about low carb nutrition after dealing with some health issues of her own. After experiencing her own positive outcomes, she is eager to guide others on their low carb journey. She is currently planning a PhD with a focus on low carb nutrition and the prevention and management of Type 2 diabetes. Her special interests are diabetes and gastrointestinal issues.

Kathryn Mayne

Kathryn Mayne is a Certified Integrative Health and Nutrition Coach, trained at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition USA and Advisor accredited with the Nutrition Network, specialising in Keto/LCHF evidence based nutrition coaching.

While guiding her clients and removing personal barriers one step at a time for sustainable behaviour change, there is no one size fits all and a bio-individual approach is taken.

Following a low carbohydrate lifestyle for many years now, Kathryn understands first hand the social, mental and physical challenges that can arise and assists her clients to build healthy sustainable habits aligning with their personal values, needs & lifestyle.

Kathryn personally experienced sustainable results with weight loss and managing symptoms during peri menopause & menopause following a low carbohydrate therapeutic approach. She loves sharing her lived experience & everyday low carb recipes, keeping it simple & fun.

Kathryn is excited about the prospect of working with you to achieve mutual success.

Exercise physiology

Chris Kondos

Christopher is an ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist with 5 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. Christopher has completed a Sports & Exercise Science Degree and a master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Chris is passionate about the science behind exercise and how exercise can benefit different chronic health conditions & injuries, in addition to sharing our clinic’s philosophy of ‘food as medicine’. He provides individualised, safe and effective exercise prescriptions to our patients to combat their health conditions and achieve their health goals.
